The School of Law, Humanities and Sociology was established in 1993 and serves as an important base for humanities and social sciences againstthe technical background of the university. It is the main unit for cultivating the humanistic qualities of undergraduate students and plays a crucial role in nurturing talents in the field of humanities and social sciences. Additionally, the school adheres to the educational principle of "being obedient to the Party's ethnic work and serving the growth and development of minority students," fully implementing the Party's strategies for governing border and Tibetan areas in the new era, and strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese nation as a community. The school undertakes the specific training of ethnic preparatory students with a high sense of political responsibility and mission.

The school currently offers five undergraduate programs, including Law, Advertising, Network and New Media, Social Work, Chinese International Education. It also offers an undergraduate minor program in Law (Intellectual Property). The Law program is designated as a first-class undergraduate program by the state, while Journalism and Communication and Education are key disciplines in Hubei Province. The Law and Journalism and Communication programs were selected for the "Jingchu Excellent Talents" collaborative cultivation program among ordinary undergraduate institutions in Hubei Province. The school has four primary disciplines for master's degrees, including Law, Education, Journalism and Communication, and Public Administration. It also has 16 secondary discipline master's programs, including Constitutional and Administrative Law, Civil and Commercial Law, Economic Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Law, Journalism, Communication, Digital Publishing and Communication, Principles of Education, Higher Education, Educational Technology, Educational Economics and Management, Public Administration, Intellectual Property Management, Disability Services Management, and Social Work. The school offers professional master's degree programs in Law, Journalism and Communication, Public Administration (MPA), Social Work, and Chinese International Education. It also has a postdoctoral research station for ideological and political education and Marxist theory and accepts doctoral students in fields such as Science and Technology Education Management, Intellectual Property, and High-quality Development of Industries. Currently, there are a total of 2,305 students enrolled, including 120 preparatory students, 1,435 undergraduate students, 750 master's students and doctoral students.

The School of Law, Humanities and Sociology has distinct disciplinary characteristics and a strong faculty. In recent years, the school has adhered to the development strategy of "establishing the school with disciplines, promoting the school with academic research, and strengthening the school with talents." It follows the educational philosophy of "integrating humanities and science, highlighting features, and promoting comprehensive innovation." The School places emphasis on discipline development, with undergraduate education as its foundation, academic research as its leading force, and talent cultivation as its goal. It aims to cultivate outstanding professional talents who can adapt to social innovation and development.Currently, the school has a teaching staff of 120 members, which comprises17 administrative personnel, 8 counselors, and 93 full-time teachers, as well as 2 postdoctoral fellows. Among them, 73 hold doctoral degrees, 51 serve as master's supervisors, and 6 act as doctoral supervisors. The school has nearly 50 person-times of talents who have been selected into provincial-level and above talent programs, including national experts of the "New Century Talents Project", experts enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, experts in the national intellectual property expert database, national leading talents in patent information, national consultation experts for comprehensive education reform, experts for undergraduate program evaluation of the Ministry of Education, experts for engineering professional accreditation of the Ministry of Education, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the provincial and ministerial level, top ten young and middle-aged jurists in Hubei Province, legal advisers for the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial People's Congress, the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, members of the judges, prosecutors and disciplinary committees in Hubei Province, and national outstanding teachers.

In recent years, the school has undertaken over 400 research projects, including more than 37 national-level research projects and over 100 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. The total funding has exceeded 50 million yuan. More than 1,000 papers have been published, and over 100 monographs, translations, and textbooks have been authored. The school has participated in more than 500 domestic and international academic conferences and has won over 30 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research awards and over 50 teaching and research projects. The school attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges. It has invited professors from internationally renowned universities such as California State University, Northridge (USA), Université de Perpignan Via Domitia (France), and the University of Vaasa (Finland) to engage in academic exchanges. It has also signed talent joint training agreements with more than ten universities, including the University of New Hampshire (USA), Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA), Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany), and the University of South Wales Trinity Saint David (UK).

 The School of Law, Humanities and Sociology is equipped with modern teaching facilities, including various laboratory centers such as the Comprehensive Laboratory, Photography Laboratory, High-definition Broadcasting Studio, New Media Laboratory, Digital Publishing Laboratory, Digital Simulation Court, Social Work Laboratory, Microgrid Laboratory, Speech Laboratory, Maker Space Platform, Legal Clinic, and Academic Lecture Hall. The school also has a library branch, with a collection of more than 40,215 books, including 178 Chinese journals and 7 foreign language journals. There are over 793 foreign language books and more than 348 electronic resources (CD-ROMs). The library also holds a collection of over 7,802 back issues of journals, and it has a specialized book collection on intellectual property and the laws of the three major industries. The school has established 9 provincial and municipal bases, including the Research Center for the Development of China's Disability Cause (the only provincial-level base in the central region), the Hubei Intellectual Property Research Center, the Hubei Intellectual Property Training (Wuhan) Base, the Patent Navigation Service Base of Hubei Province, and the Wuhan Intellectual Property Protection Workstation. In addition, it has set up more than ten professional research centers, such as the Research Center for the Development of Higher Education and the Law Research Center.

The School takes student development as the center, and comprehensively improves the actual effect of soul-casting and education. It has been selected as the first batch of "provincial benchmarking colleges and departments of Communist Partyof China building", created the first batch of "national model branch of party building", the first batch of "hundred graduate model party branch" in national colleges and universities, selected as the first batch of "provincial ideological and political work research library" of the Ministry of Education, approved one project of the Ministry of Education for the construction of the young backbone team in the ideological and political work of colleges and universities (the only one in the Wu Han University of Technology), and 3 projects of the Employment Education Project for the Connection between Supply and Demand of the Ministry of Education. It has created the first "Minxing" counselor studio located in the student park (2016, about 90 square meters), and approved the "first batch of student work demonstration team in Hubei Province" (ten in the province, the only one in the school). It has built 1 national quality course, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 1 national quality online open course, 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, 5 provincial first-class courses, won 3 second prizes of national teaching achievements (hosting 2 and participating in 1), 5 provincial teaching achievement prizes, 7 projects of industry-university cooperation and collaborative education approved by the Ministry of Education, and 1 provincial teaching team.

In the past five years, students have won more than 200 provincial and ministerial awards in "Challenge Cup" competition and NationalAdvertising Art Design Competitionfor College Students, among which the total score of the advertising art competition has ranked first in China for three consecutive years. A host of outstanding teacher and student models and outstanding graduate representatives have emerged, such as Huang Ying, the most beautiful college student in the country, the Person of the Year for Chinese College Students, the pacesetter of Self-improvement Star for Chinese College Students, and the first blind student in the country to enter a "Double First-Class" construction university through the general college entrance examination;Jin Min, the most beautiful college counselor in the country, a national excellent teacher, the Person of the Year for College Counselors in the country, who has been dedicated to the front line of the counselor position for 17 years, Chen Lanlan, the most beautiful social worker in the country, Jibieluosang Wangdan, the most beautiful discipline inspection and supervision cadre in the country, Yuracairang, an outstanding Communist Party member in the national fire protection system, and Chen Jiyuan, the winner of the Outstanding Individual Award of Chinese Youth Volunteers.
